Join BCM during spring break for a week-long celebration of our amazing planet! Each day presents exciting STEAM-inspired programs consisting of dynamic performances, hands-on workshops, and special projects in BCM’s new makerspace, Nature’s Engineers. The week is organized around four overarching themesGrowSustainCare, and Explore.

Today’s theme is Care: Animals, Insects, and Habitats. Discover the importance of preserving wildlife and maintaining our planet’s delicate ecosystem!

Schedule

Bug Out!

🕒 10:30 am–12:30 pm, 2:30 pm–4:30 pm

Bug out with entomologist and scientist Dr. Aaron Rodriques. You’re invited to observe, photograph, and handle Dr. Rodriques’ live collection of insects and invertebrates while he answers any questions that you may have.

Animal Veterinary

🕒 10:30 am–12:30 pm, and 2:30 pm–4:30 pm

Learn how to use tools such as a stethoscope, otoscope, and thermometer to perform a check-up on a fuzzy animal friend at our animal care station.

Animal Encounters

🕒 12:00 pm–12:30 pm, and 3:30 pm–4:00 pm

Say hello to BCM’s live animals at this program led by our expert animal maintainer and educator, Sarah! Get a personal introduction to some of BCM’s most fascinating creatures and participate in an art project inspired by our animal friends.

AlphaBugs

🕒 1:00 pm–1:45 pm, and 2:30 pm-3:15 pm

Ants on a Log presents AlphaBugs, a creative show combining original social justice kids music with interactive content from “Insects and Me A to Z,” a brilliant book with bug facts, strength-based affirmations, and a refreshingly diverse cast of characters. Ants on a Log and author Mélissa Smith collaborate for a high-energy, interactive show full of singing, movement, joy, and justice! Recommended for ages 3-10.

Earth Guardians in ColorLab Art Studio

🕒 10:30 am–4:30 pm
Half-hour long sessions, starting every 45 minutes.

Visit the ColorLab Art Studio and create your own Earth guardian creatures inspired by Wangechi Mutu’s sentinels. Participants will use natural materials like wood, clay, sticks, leaves and twine.

Plant Dyes in Nature’s Engineers Makerspace

🕒 10:30 am–4:30 pm
Half-hour long sessions, starting every 45 minutes.

Learn about plants and the colors that they produce! Test different plant-based pigments to create your own unique colors.
