With the generous support of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Brooklyn Children’s Museum offers a free summer camp program in July and August of 2021. To be eligible for this program, students must be entering Grades 1 through 6 in the fall of 2021. Participants will explore art, culture, and science as they take a close look at BCM’s 30,000-piece collection of artifacts and natural science specimens. Breakfast and lunch are served, and participants can look forward to field trips throughout the summer (pending New York State COVID-19 regulations).
About the Program
Please note: Only students entering Grades 1-6 in the fall 2021 academic year are eligible to participate. Children entering first grade must celebrate their 6th birthday by July 5, 2021.
P.S. 189, 1100 East New York Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212. Pending New York State COVID-19 regulations this program may be offered remote only or with a modified in-person schedule. Should any changes occur, parents registered in the program will be notified.
Summer Camp Dates
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:45 p.m., July 2021 to August 2021.
We are accepting applications starting Monday, February 15th through Sunday, April 11th, 2021. Placement notifications will be sent between May 3rd and May 10th 2021.
Information sessions about the program will be held remotely via ZOOM 12:00pm-12:30pm on the following dates:
- Session 1: Saturday, March 20th, 12:00pm-12:30pm
- Session 2: Saturday, April 3rd, 12:00pm-12:30pm
Both sessions will present the same information; you need only attend one session.

STEP 2: Download or Pick Up A Copy of The Application
You must complete an application for each child you are enrolling. Download the application here.
Applications will be available at the following locations from February 23rd – April 11th 2021:
Brooklyn Children’s Museum Admissions Desk (starting Thursday Feb 25th)
- Saturdays & Sundays: 10:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm (CLOSED 1:00pm-2:00pm for cleaning)
- Thursdays: 2:00pm-5:00pm
P.S. 189 School Safety Desk (starting Tuesday Feb 23rd)
- Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm (CLOSED during scheduled school holidays)
If your child is selected for the program you will be required to submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a health form stamped by a doctor in order to confirm your child’s placement within 2 weeks. Downloaded applications must be printed out, completed, and submitted in person to either PS 189 or the Museum.
STEP 3: Drop Off your Completed Application
Parents/guardians must submit an application for EACH child applying to the program (even if the child has already participated in any of the Museum’s after school or summer programs). Completed applications should be returned to Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s admissions desk or the school safety desk at P.S. 189. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Admission to the program is determined by a lottery, which gives preference to families that attend a parent orientation and to siblings of selected applicants.
