ArtRink: We Celebrate!
Call for Art
To mark Brooklyn Children’s Museums’ 125th birthday, this year’s ArtRink exhibition is rooted in themes of celebration, reflecting on the ways we:
- Express joy as individuals and communities,
- Participate in events and rituals of remembrance and timekeeping,
- Share our significant achievements, creativity, values, and ideas to acknowledge the passage of time.
BCM is looking for artistic interpretations of the theme We Celebrate! to be included in this year’s exhibition. What are the ways of celebration we share? How do our anniversaries, holidays, and significant dates and rituals reflect the past and shape our future? How can we inspire and uplift each other with our joy?
BCM encourages artists and collectives to design an imaginative response or draw on existing work that speaks to these ideas.
ArtRink is Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s interactive art exhibition taking place on the Museum’s rooftop from November 2024 through March 2025. The centerpiece of this installation is a 3,000 square-foot synthetic-ice skating rink that is surrounded by artwork, including vinyl posters and a series of interactive playhouses, all themed around artistic interpretations of the theme of We Celebrate!.
Pre-existing work and designs are welcome. The work can either be two-dimensional, in the form of an illustration that will be printed on a vinyl poster and displayed in the rooftop’s windows, or three-dimensional, in the form of designs and interactives applied to a playhouse that will be part of the installation.
Window vinyl poster dimensions are 55” x 69.5”. Submitted artwork should not exceed these dimensions but final submission files should be of appropriate resolution for print at the dimension stated. Lower sized files will be accepted for submission purposes only. The art for playhouses should be designed to be applied to the house or painted on.
Artists will be paid a $500 honorarium for vinyl posters to be displayed in the rooftop windows and $2,000 (including supplies needed) for three-dimensional art installations that are applied to playhouses that BCM has on site.
Originality and Rights:
- Artist should own all the rights for promoting, publishing, and selling the artworks locally and internationally.
- Entries must not be copies or derivatives based, in any way, on other copyrighted or published paintings, photographs, sculptures, or other artistic works.
- Organizers have the rights to use artworks and artists data for promoting the exhibition.
All submissions are due by August 23, 2024.
To submit artwork for consideration, please fill out this form.
Due to the volume of submissions, BCM will contact only the artists who have been selected to be included in this year’s installation.
