Join us as we honor the life and legacy of iconic civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Over three days of history and fun, families will celebrate themes of diversity, equality, freedom, and resistance.

Monday, January 15

Make Art Not War: Interactive Handprint Mural
11:30am-12:00pm | All ages
“The Time is always right to do what’s right,” declared Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964. Join us as we celebrate Dr. King’s commitment to social justice by turning this quote into a new museum mural. Children are invited to add their handprints to the mural and learn the importance of standing up for equality in their communities.

I Have a Dream Cloud
1:00pm-3:00pm | All ages
Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed that one day his community and country would be free of racial injustice. Learn about Dr. King’s dream and write your own dream for your family, community, and country on our dream clouds. Hang up your cloud on our skyline to help create Dr. King  museum display and watch your dreams soar!  Listen to Dr. King’s iconic I Have a Dream speech while you work.

Kids Take Action! Letter Writing for Change
1:30pm-2:00pm | All ages
Join us as we write letters to elected officials and tell them about our dreams for our communities. All letters will be mailed out at the end of the week by BCM.

Sylvia’s Story Corner on the Bus
3:30pm-4:30pm | All ages
Climb aboard our Brooklyn city bus for an interactive story time. Discover the incredible life of Rosa Parks and learn about how her historical impact all started on a city bus.

Let your voice be heard! Design a protest sign, chant, and poster that promotes friendship and equality in your community. Join us for a conversation on non-violent protest while we work in preparation for our Children’s March. March begins at 3:45pm!

The Little Makers Space opens with all new activities for young artists and their caregivers to explore together. Activity stations invite tots to build and refine their motor skills; engage in sensory exploration of materials, and learn how to share with others. There is no such thing as a bad mess in this space, which is tailored to children six and younger.

Color Cove
12:00pm-4:00pm | Ages 2+
Color cove is a place where children can release their inner artist by using a variety of art materials including paint and stickers. The entire room is your canvas- let your imagination run wild!

Touch Tank
12:30pm to 1:00pm | All ages
Meet and touch real, live sea creatures like starfish and sea urchins.

Live Animal Adventure

Freedom Songs featuring Imani Uzuri

Every revolution needs a soundtrack. Join vocalist and composer Imani Uzuri (founder of Revolutionary Choir) for a live interactive musical performance of the songs that celebrated the call for freedom during the Civil Rights Movement.
