SCHEDULE
A Knock at Midnight
🕒 All Days: 12:30 pm – 12:50 pm, 2:45 pm – 3:05 pm
Watch and join in an interactive puppet performance of “A Knock at Midnight” inspired by the hopes and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This show was created by Nehprii Amenii in collaboration with performers Emmanuel Elpenord, Amparo “Chigui” Santiago, and Marina Celander. Join the performers beforehand for a puppet-making workshop, and we encourage guests to bring the puppets they make to the performances following the workshop.
Protest Poster Workshop & March
🕒 All Days: 10:45 am – 11:30 am, 3:15 pm – 4:00 pm
Use your voice to explore Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy through civil rights songs, chants and a march led by musician and artist Fyütch. Füytch will share MLK’s values and convictions and visitors will create protest posters to wave proudly as they march throughout the Museum.
Puppet Workshop
🕒 All Days: 11:45 am – 12:15 pm, 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Join Nehprii Amenii for a puppet-making workshop! Participants will be making their own birds of hope. We encourage guests to bring their puppets to the performances of “A Knock at Midnight” after the workshop.
Volunteer Project
🕒 Monday: 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Drop-in for a special volunteer project led by non-profit Repair the World. Kids and families will learn about the power of service work and take action to assemble warmth and hygiene kits for other families and children in need. Each participating child will be able to package one kit (while supplies last) and write or draw a note to the recipients. Capacity is limited. First come, first served.
Celestial Monoprints
🕒 All Days: 10:15 am – 12:15 pm, 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
This month in ColorLab, we’re exploring the basics of printmaking by creating monoprints inspired by Mildred Thompson’s abstract paintings of outer space. Create a starry monoprint using tempera paint and printmaking tools. Also, for MLK Day, imagine a better world and contribute a cloud with your wish for our planet to our Sky Full of Dreams.
Best of the Nest
🕒 All Days: 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm
This month in Nature’s Engineers, we will investigate why birds are often considered “nature’s architects,” and how their nests have inspired the structures of homes, buildings, stadiums, and more. Build your own nests using twine, raffia, and natural materials, then test their strength and stability. How many eggs can your nest hold?
