WORKSHOPS: GRADES PRE-K – 5TH
BCM has launched a brand new series of lively and engaging summer programs!
Each program utilizes our unique features – BCM’s collection of natural science specimen and cultural artifacts, live animals, and permanent exhibits. There’s a program for every age and interest and each experience is guided by one of our trained and engaging educators.
Educator-led programs are offered Tuesday through Friday, and run for 30 minutes.
Programs are available during four time slots:
10:15 – 10:45
11:00 – 11:30
11:45 – 12:15
12:30 – 1:00
WATER WAYS LIVE!
Show water some love! Take a dive into the world of aquatic animals. Interact with the shells and fossils of aquatic animals, such as the extinct sea scorpion. Have an up-close encounter with live animals, such as sea urchins, hermit crabs, and starfish.
People around the world use fabric, metal, wood, and other materials to adorn our bodies and to tell the story of who we are. Explore the unique and universal reasons we adorn ourselves. Observe and touch ancient and contemporary adornments from BCM’s collection, and make your own adornments using clay, fabric, or upcycled materials.
Stoops, bubbles, bouncy houses and gardens…. A Brooklyn block in the summer can feel like its own universe as well as an important part of a larger vibrant neighborhood. Work together to imagine, design, and build a model of a Brooklyn block and brainstorm ideas for your block’s summer block party!
A SEED IS A STAR
What will plants be like in the future? Explore the plant life cycle and what makes each stage extraordinary. Make a mixed-media sculpture of your imagined plant of the future and think about its place in an imagined ecosystem.
Our animal friends at Brooklyn Children’s Museum have super powers! Whether they can regrow a tail or lift 1,000 times their weight, animals have unique gifts that help them survive and grow. Meet some live animals, move your body, and explore your own superpowers.
