Collections Central Workshop Programs
Students, grades 3 and up, have special opportunities to explore a selection of the Museum ’s 10,000 cultural objects. A 90-minute session on one of the topics listed below includes up-close observation of artifacts, storytelling, history, and an arts project. Some programs require theme selection upon registration. These programs support New York State’s Social Studies Core Curriculum.
Each 90-minute session includes: storytelling, up-close viewing and handling of cultural artifacts, and a role-playing or arts and crafts activity.

Traditional West Africa
Students investigate masks and other objects of power and protection in West African cultures.
The Ancient Mediterranean
Students discover objects and ideas that have influenced Western civilization. Choose Egypt, Greece, or Rome as a program focus.
The Native Cultures of the Pacific
Students investigate fascinating objects from aboriginal cultures. Choose Australia, Pacific Islands of New Guinea, New Zealand, or Hawaii as a program focus.
Early America, Primary Sources
Students experience history from original sources by exploring historical documents and artifacts from America’s past.
The Language of Buildings
By examining doors, mosaic floors, decorated walls, and pillars, students learn about the fascinating world of architecture while improving their language arts and history skills. Participants view a short video and construct an ancient Roman house.
