Where to Eat
Check out one of these great local restaurants for lunch. Crown Heights offers a great variety of restaurants that may serve one of your favorite foods... or something totally new! Here are a few recommendations.
Note: The museum does not have a cafe. We provide a small eating/vending area, feel free to pack a l lunch! ( We are busy planning for a new Kids Café that will open with the expanded museum in 2006.)
Wild Bean Café/BP (5 minute walk)
Corner of Atlantic Ave. and Brooklyn Ave.The Wild Bean Café operates inside the BP gas station store. They offer a full range of gourmet sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, and dark roast coffee. If you're looking for something healthy or an on-the-go snack, this is a good choice. Open seven days/week. Features a parking lot and seating.
Directions from Museum: Walk north, against traffic on Brooklyn Avenue to Atlantic Avenue. Cross Atlantic Avenue under the LIR overpass to the BP station on the corner.
Cas West Indian (3 minute walk)
135 Kingston Avenue between St. Marks Ave. & Bergen St.Cas West Indian is a local favorite, right around the corner from The Museum. The menu features Jamaican specialties like Callaloo & Cod Fish, Roti, Curry Chicken, & Gungo Soup.
Directions from Museum: Follow traffic on St. Marks. Walk one block to Kingston. Turn left on Kingston. Walk 1/2 a block. Cas West Indian is on the right.
Eastern Chinese (3 minute walk)
127 Kingston Avenue between St. Marks Ave. & Bergen St.Eastern Chinese has all your Szechuan, Hunan, and Cantonese favorites. From Egg Rolls and Wonton Soup to Chicken Chop Suey and Tung Ting Shrimp, they are sure to have something tasty for everyone.

Kingston Pizza (8 minute walk)
259 Kingston Avenue between Sterling St. & St. Johns Ave.Stop by for a cheesy Sicilian slice, a hot sausage hero, or some garlic knots. Frank & Nick offer a full menu of Italian treats.

El Primo (10 minute walk)
268 Kingston Ave. between Lincoln St. & Eastern ParkwayBefore you get back on the 3 train, go to El Primo for some yellow rice & beans or fried plantanos. They have good lunch specials and fresh coffee all day. Note: Closed on Sundays

Picnic in Brower Park (Behind Museum)
Between St. Marks Ave. & Prospect Place, Brooklyn Ave. and Kingston Ave.Brower Park is a great place for a picnic. Bring your own food or get take-out from any of these local places. You'll find many benches, a playground, and basketball courts.
Directions from The Museum: Leave through the front entrance, turn left, walk 20 yards and turn left into the park.
