Exhibition & Collections, National Traveling Exhibits

---[ ]---

Pattern Wizardry is a tri-lingual (French, Spanish, English) 1,200 square foot traveling exhibition designed to encourage children’s inquiry into their world through investigations of how patterns organize and enrich their lives. The exhibit features materials selected from the Museum’s collection of 27,000 cultural and natural science objects.

Pattern Wizardry is designed for children between the ages of 5-12 and is also intended for families, educators, schools, and community organizations that focus on childhood education and enrichment. The exhibit is written at a third and fourth grade reading level and is in rhyme to evoke a wizard spell or incantation to engage visitors of all ages. Activities and components encourage both thoughtful and fun individual experiences as well as shared interactions amongst children and between children and adults.

The exhibit supports national elementary curriculum standards by exploring the cultural meanings and mathematical and scientific concepts that underlie patterns through hands-on activities, participatory multi-media, and interactives that encourage children to recognize, identify, compare and create patterns.

Pattern Wizardry is funded in part by the National Science Foundation. BCM is seeking a corporate sponsor for the national tour.
