Summer 2007 Internships
Brooklyn Children’s Museum participates in the Everett Internship program. Each internship lasts ten weeks and provides $230 weekly for expenses. Accepted candidates will work on substantive projects, develop professional skills, and gain knowledge about the enormous societal impact of public service. Interns gather to attend exciting weekly events, both educational and social, and presentations by distinguished leaders and young heroes from the public sector. Public Relations Internship - Spring 2007
Brooklyn Children’s Museum seeks a Public Relations Intern to work in the Museum’s Communications Department. Candidates should be detail-oriented, and possess strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and would be expected to work at least 12 hours per week. The internship is unpaid, but may be redeemable for course credit (please check with your college or university).
The Intern’s responsibilities may include: drafting press releases and media alerts; preparing media coverage reports; assembling press kits; maintaining the press clipping files and photo library; assisting with photo/video shoots; general administrative support; and assisting with marketing and community outreach projects within the Communications Department as needed. As an integral member of the Communications staff, the Intern will gain valuable experience and knowledge of the public relations and arts marketing fields, while learning about the operations of a nonprofit organization.

Summer Intern Program Assistant
This eight-week internship is awarded to college juniors, seniors, and recent graduates who have not yet entered graduate school. Interns work with in the Education Department as Program Assistants, facilitating gallery exploration for summer camp groups and conduct public programming for family audiences late-June through mid-August.
Qualifications:
- BA or BFA (or Junior/Senior) in studio art, art history, museum education, art education, anthropology, or related field.
- Cheerful, friendly, and outgoing disposition.
- Experience working with children.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and facilitate lessons and activities for summer camp groups.
- Greet camp group visitors.
- Facilitate one of the galleries in the loop for camp group visits.
General development:
- Read selected articles related to museum education theory and practices
- Research BCM’s cultural objects and live animals
- Observe public and camp programs using observation guidelines in order to contribute to the best practices of our department.
Dates
July 2, 2007–August 24, 2007 * There are only five positions available. We will keep the recruitment process open until we fill all the positions.
Schedule:
Tuesday–Friday, with a minimum commitment of 2- days per week or 14 hrs Schedules can be arranged on half day or full day commitments , generally 9:30–5:30
Salary:
This internship is unpaid. College credits could be awarded. You must arrange this previously with your college.
*Stipend for transportation will be awarded
