Celebrate Earth!

Celebrate Earth Day at Brooklyn Children’s Museum by visiting the Museum’s new exhibit WILDERNESS CAMP, which focuses on the great outdoors. Build gross motor skills through hands-on play in Neighborhood Nature, which includes a community cork garden, animal habitat dioramas, indoor “beach,” and live animals! Bend your body like a lizard during yoga sessions led by Yo Re Mi. And, join Reynaliz Herrera for a live percussion performance concert featuring original music played from unconventional instruments.


Saturday, April 22nd

Totally Tots Studio – Park Diorama
10:00am to 12:00pm | Ages 2.5+

Toddlers make tabletop dioramas using live plants, greenery, bark, clay, and blocks. Activities invite young artists to build and refine their fine motor skills; engage in sensory exploration of materials; and learn how to share with others in this open art studio. There is no such thing as a bad mess in this space, which is tailored to children five and younger.

Brooklyn Block Lab & Studio
10:00am to 1:00pm| Ages 2.5+

BCM’s 2nd floor Studio focuses on art and architecture, and invites visitors of all ages to develop their engineering skills through block play. The space features Imagination Playground blocks, Kapla Planks, and Magnatiles, as well as artist James Paulius’ house-shaped wooden blocks and pegs for building a Sky Village.

Ideas Not Theories – Musical Performance
11:00am to 11:45am, 2:00pm to 2:45pm | All Ages

Combining music, theater and storytelling, performer Reynaliz Herrera explores the use of unconventional instruments such as bicycles, water, brushes, as well as traditional percussion instruments and drums.

Wilderness Camp- Earth Rocks
11:00am to 3:00pm | All ages

Explore rock properties that make up the earth’s layers. Then see some highlights from BCM’s geologic collection in this hands-on program.

Musical Yoga with Yo Re Mi
12:00pm to 12:30pm, 12:45pm to 1:15pm | All ages

Join Yo Re Mi for a musical yoga camping adventure in celebration of Earth Day. Discover nature, learn about animals and test your wilderness skills while singing, dancing and having fun! Yo Re Mi’s acclaimed music and yoga adventures bring children on a wild ride using bodies, voices and imaginations. With live music, yoga poses and original songs, learn about nature, geography, languages and history.

Touch Tank

Meet and touch live sea creatures like starfish and sea urchins, and learn how they lay their eggs during this live animal program.

Play with Your Food
1:30pm to 2:30pm | All ages

Kids play chef as they taste, smell and touch foods from around the world at BCM’s new Charlie Cart, a mobile kitchen that gets kids cooking!

Sensory Room
2:00pm to 4:30pm | All ages

In this inclusive space, children of all abilities can explore their senses through play, including sensory mats, objects, and swings. The Sensory Room is designed to meet the needs of children with sensory sensitivities and/or who are on the Autism spectrum.

Peaceable Kingdom
4:15pm to 4:45pm | All ages

Learn about and touch live animals from the Museum’s living collection.

What makes an object “historic?” Why do museums keep objects for long periods of time? Children explore these questions through the Museum’s permanent collection. Kids get to touch nests, butterflies, and bugs as they learn about the significance of objects through observation and conversation with a BCM Educator.
